Electric vehicles have not followed the path many expected several years ago. Sales growth remains uneven. Forecasts have shifted. Yet one thing keeps moving forward: technology. And Zeekr appears determined to build around that reality.
The Geely Group brand has announced plans for a global fast-charging network designed for both 400-volt and 800-volt electric vehicle architectures. Rather than focusing solely on new models, the company is placing part of its attention on the infrastructure supporting them.
The move starts from a position of strength inside its home market. Zeekr already operates more than 800 ultra-fast charging stations across China. According to the company, no other charging network in the country currently exceeds its scale in the ultra-fast segment.
Now, the focus shifts overseas. Australia sits near the front of the expansion plan. Zeekr considers the country one of its most important international markets, and the charging network is expected to accompany the arrival of additional premium products.
Among them is the Zeekr 7X. The sport utility vehicle is scheduled to join the brand’s growing portfolio and has become one of the vehicles tied closely to Zeekr’s broader international ambitions.
Another destination appears on the roadmap as well. Thailand remains a market the company has watched closely for years. Zeekr plans to continue its expansion there before extending the charging strategy beyond Asia and Oceania. After those regions, attention turns toward additional global markets.
Infrastructure is only one side of the story. During Tech Day, Zeekr presented a new lithium-iron-phosphate battery pack called the next-generation Golden Battery. The system is expected to enter production later this year.
The first vehicle set to receive the battery is the Zeekr 007 in 2026. According to figures released by the company, the new battery technology will allow charging from 10 percent to 80 percent in approximately ten and a half minutes. Charging times continue falling. The industry has been moving in that direction for years, though the pace has accelerated recently.
Meanwhile, development work on future products continues. The Zeekr 7X rides on Geely’s SEA platform, an architecture shared with the Polestar 4, Zeekr 001, Zeekr 007, and smart #1. The model has also been spotted undergoing road testing in Europe.
Taken together, the announcements point toward a broader strategy.
Zeekr is expanding its vehicle lineup. It is introducing new battery technology. It is entering new markets. And alongside those efforts, the company wants a larger charging footprint outside China.
For a growing electric vehicle brand, the cars are only part of the equation. The chargers are becoming part of the product, too.
